President Donald Trump on Wednesday lashed out at Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, demanding rate cuts just after ADP reported the weakest private sector job growth since March 2023. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Europe has lowered nine times!”. Their recent White House meeting reportedly turned tense. According to press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump told Powell he was “making a mistake by not lowering interest rates,” arguing it puts the U.S. at a disadvantage to countries like China. The Fed stated Powell emphasized that policy should follow economic data, not politics. Since returning to office, Trump has repeatedly attacked Powell, calling him a “major loser” and nicknaming him “Too Late” over rate decisions. Though Trump hinted at firing Powell before his term ends in 2026, he said in April he had “no intention” of doing so—yet continues to air frustrations publicly.
