Consumer confidence in France fell to 87 in August 2025, down from 88 in the previous three months and below forecasts of 90. This marked the lowest level since October 2023, as households grew more pessimistic about their future financial situation (-16 vs -14 in July) and continued to view conditions as unfavorable for major purchases (-27 vs -26). Perceptions of both the past (-74 vs -71) and future (-64 vs -62) standard of living in France also deteriorated, underscoring persistent concerns. In addition, unemployment expectations edged higher (56 vs 54), signaling increased caution about the labor market. On the positive side, households’ views of their past financial situation held steady (-21), while both current (17 vs 18) and expected (13 vs 14) saving capacity remained elevated, even as saving intentions declined (35 vs 42). Meanwhile, inflation expectations improved, with the corresponding indicator rising to -25 from -30.
