The unemployment rate in Canada rose to 6.7% in March of 2025, accelerating from the three-month low recorded in the previous month and matching market expectations. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 36.1 thousand to 1,509 thousand in the period, mirroring a similar decline in the labor force, which resulted in a 0.1 percentage point drop in the participation rate to 65.2%, the lowest in five months. Consequently, net employment dropped by 32.6 thousand from the previous month to 20,962 million, well below market expectations that job growth would have totalled 12 thousand.
