Hong Kong’s trade deficit widened to $16.0 billion in April 2025 from $10.2 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports rose by 14.7% year-on-year to $434.5 billion, driven by strong growth in sales of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (18.7%), as well as office machines and automatic data processing machines (46%). Exports to Mainland China and several other Asian markets recorded notable increases, while shipments to the United States rose marginally and those to the European Union declined. Meanwhile, imports grew by 15.8% to $450.5 billion, mainly due to higher purchases of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (16.8%), and office machines and automatic data processing machines (67.1%). For the first four months of 2025, the cumulative trade deficit stood at $96.9 billion, with exports up 11.9% and imports rising 11.4% compared to the same period last year.
