Estonia’s trade deficit widened to EUR 281 million in May 2025 from EUR 203 million in the same month of the previous year, as exports rose less than imports. Year-on-year, exports advanced 2% to EUR 1,573 million, with shipments rising to EU countries (3%), while falling to non-EU countries (-2%). Among commodities, notable increases were seen in agricultural products and food preparations (16%), transport equipment (15%), and electrical equipment (11%). Meanwhile, imports grew at a faster 6% to EUR 1,855 million, driven by a surge in purchases from non-EU countries (54%), despite a decline in inbound shipments from EU countries (-1%). Arrivals went up for paper and articles (11%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (8%), and electrical equipment (7%). Considering the first five months of the year, the country posted a shortfall of EUR 1,464 million, expanding from EUR 1,302 million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
