Finland’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 0.21 billion in February 2025 from EUR 0.73 billion in the same month of the previous year, according to preliminary estimates. Imports fell by 3.3% year-on-year to EUR 5.95 billion, driven by reduced purchases from non-EU countries (-10.1%). However, purchases increased from the EU countries (1.5%). The sharpest declines in imports were from the United Kingdom (-36.4%), Canada (-25.2%), the United States (-21.0%), and Russia (-14.9%). Meanwhile, exports increased by 5.8% to EUR 5.74 billion, boosted by sales to EU countries (3.4%) and non-EU countries (9.2%). Among key trading partners, exports increased mainly to Latvia (104.5%), Lithuania (71.5%), South Korea (48.1%), Norway (48.0%), and Poland (32.3%). For the first two months of the year, the country’s trade deficit shrank to EUR 395 million from EUR 1.0 billion in the same period of last year.
