Una balanza comercial positiva indica un superávit comercial, mientras que una balanza comercial negativa indica un déficit comercial. Bulgaria’s trade deficit widened to BGN 1,081.2 million in May 2025 from BGN 1,033.0 million in the same month last year, as exports fell much faster than imports. Exports declined by 4.6% year-on-year to BGN 6,517.5 million due to lower sales to the EU (-7.2%), while it increased to non-EU countries (0.3%). Meanwhile, imports decreased by 3.4% to BGN 7598.7 million, amid reduced purchases from non-EU countries (-15.6%), although imports from the EU countries grew (7.1%). In the January to May period, the country’s trade gap widened significantly to BGN 7691.3 million from BGN 4790.1 million in the corresponding period of the previous year, as exports dropped by 4.7%, while imports rose by 3.2%.
