Lithuania’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 0.269 billion in August 2025, marking the smallest shortfall since September 2024, from EUR 0.350 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, as imports fell more than exports. Imports fell by 6.8% year-on-year to EUR 3.279 billion, primarily due to lower purchases of mineral fuels, mineral oils, and products of their distillation (-23.1%) and ground vehicles (-14.7%). Among trading partners, imports rose from Poland (13.8%), Germany (12.8%), and Latvia (8.3%). Meanwhile, exports contracted by 4.9% to EUR 3.010 billion, driven by decreased sales for plastics and articles thereof (-17.5%) and ground vehicles (-16.8%). The top export destinations were Latvia (12.4%), Poland (10.4%), and Germany (9.1%). Considering the January-August period, the country posted a EUR 4.392 billion shortfall, with exports dropping by 1.2%, while imports rose by 4.5%.
