This also marked the fourth consecutive month of surplus, as exports declined less than imports. Sales to the EU increased by 1.8%, while exports to non-EU countries decreased by 7.6%. Meanwhile, imports declined at a sharper 2.1% to EUR 7,787.1 million, dragged down by an almost 26% decrease of purchases in the mineral fuels section, which includes oil, electricity and natural gas. Considering the January to August period, the country's trade surplus narrowed to EUR 1,600.7 million from EUR 2,592.9 in the same period a year ago.
