Brazil’s seasonally adjusted FGV-IBRE Consumer Confidence Index rose by 1.9 points to 86.7 in May 2025, marking the third consecutive monthly increase and the highest level since December 2024. The improvement was largely driven by reduced pessimism regarding households' current financial situation (84.0 vs 81.1), along with a modest rise in expectations for the future (89.1 vs 88.1). According to FGV economist Anna Carolina Gouveia, the broader improvement across all income groups reflects the resilience of economic activity in 2025. A strong labor market has helped sustain sentiment, while inflation—though concerning—has remained under control. Despite the gains, the index remains below the neutral 100-point mark, indicating that consumer sentiment is still pessimistic overall.
