The annual inflation rate in the Philippines slowed to 0.9% in July 2025, below market expectations of 1.1% and the previous month’s 1.4%. The latest figure marked the lowest reading since October 2019, as prices declined for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.2% vs 0.4% in June) and transport (-2% vs -1.6%). Additionally, costs moderated for housing and utilities (2.1% vs 3.2%), education (4.3% vs 5.3%), and personal care, miscellaneous goods and services (2.3% vs 2.4%). On the other hand, inflation increased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.2% vs 3.8%) and health (2.6% vs 2.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.3%, following a 0.2% gain in June. Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes certain food and energy items, edged up to 2.3%, the highest in five months, from 2.2%, where it had remained steady for four consecutive months.
