La balanza comercial (BC) se refiere a la diferencia entre el valor monetario de las importaciones y exportaciones de un país durante un período de tiempo determinado. Una balanza comercial positiva indica un superávit comercial, mientras que una balanza comercial negativa indica un déficit comercial. La balanza comercial es un componente importante para determinar la cuenta corriente de un país.

Spain's trade deficit widened to €5.48 billion in March 2025, from €2.03 billion in the same month last year. Imports jumped 18.3% year-on-year to a near 2-1/2-year high of €39.6 billion, mainly boosted by purchases of raw materials (+45.7%); chemical products (+26.6%), primarily pharmaceuticals (+67.1%); capital goods (+18.4%); energy products (+17.6%), notably gas (+72.4%;) and food, beverages & tobacco (+19.7%). Among key partners, imports rose from the EU (15.3%); the UK (33.9%), the US (42.4%) and China (21.6%). Meanwhile, exports rose 8.5% to €34.1 billion, driven by shipments of chemical products (+19.2%); capital goods (+7.8%); raw materials (+11.8%); food, beverages & tobacco ( +7.8%) and durable consumer goods (+15.8%). Exports rose to the UK (8.9%), the EU (6.2%), China (17.5%) and the US (8.7%). The country's trade shortfall surged about 86% from the same period a year ago to EUR 15.10 billion in Q1, with imports and exports rising 9.3% and 2.6%, respectively.
