UK construction output rose 1.6% year-on-year in February 2025, in line with market expectations and following a revised flat reading in January. This marks the strongest growth in construction activity since May 2024, mainly driven by an increase in new work output (1.7% vs 0% in January) and a rebound in repair and maintenance activity (1.4% vs -0.1%). Meanwhile, growth in total housing output eased to 1.2% from 1.6% in January. On a monthly basis, construction activity increased by 0.4%, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in the previous period, supported by gains in both new work (+0.3%) and repair and maintenance (+0.5%). Over the three months to February, construction output was unchanged, as a 1.2% rise in new work was offset by a 1.5% drop in repair and maintenance.
