Employment in Australia surged by 89,000 in April 2025 to a new record of 14.64 million, far surpassing market expectations of a 20,000 gain. This marked the third monthly increase this year and followed an upwardly revised rise of 36,400 in the previous month. Full-time employment jumped by 59,500 to an all-time high of 10.07 million, sharply rebounding from a downwardly revised 12,200 increase in March. Part-time employment also rose by 29,500 to a record 4.57 million, accelerating from a revised 24,200 gain. The robust job growth pushed the employment-to-population ratio up by 0.3 percentage points to 64.4%, just shy of the record 64.5% reached in January. Over the year to April, total employment grew by 389,800, or 2.7%, outpacing the 2.1% population growth rate for those aged 15 and over.
